Bye-bye paperwork: smart tools for businesswomen

Loose slips of paper, missing numbers, lost customers—these days are gone! The DTC Ghana supports female entrepreneurs to manage their business via app. Now everything is more structured, they save time and increase their profits.

In Ghana, women-led micro-enterprises form the backbone of the informal economy, yet many remain digitally excluded due to limited access to technology and skills. To address this gap, the Digital Transformation Center Ghana is making digital solutions more inclusive and accessible for female entrepreneurs, by adapting their design to their needs and habits.

Before the “user testing for UI/UX design” initiative, many women struggled to use digital tools to run and grow their businesses. The project tested 18 digital services with women entrepreneurs, observing and analyzing their behavior, gathering feedback, and used it to co-design and tailor the apps’ user interface and experience to the realities of the women.

For women like Cynthia Sangapare, a clothing trader in the Ashanti Region, the transformation has been life-changing:

I used to rely only on walk-in customers, but now I showcase my products online and receive orders from across Ghana. Digital tools have opened a new world for me.

Similarly, she highlighted the impact on financial management: “Before, I kept my records in a notebook, and sometimes, I lost track of payments. Now, I use a simple mobile app to manage sales and expenses, making my business more stable.”

 Aisha Salifu, who trades in food produce in one of the largest markets in Kumasi expressed her excitement taking part in this initiative.

The future of Ghanas female entrepeneurs is digital

To spread these user-centric design methods across Ghana, the project trained experts in 12 regional Innovation Hubs, who now provide UI/UX consultation to disruptive entrepreneurs. With improved design, their digital solutions have the potential to break down barriers to financial management, marketing, and customer engagement.

By bridging the digital gender divide, the DTC and Innovation Hubs across Ghana empower women entrepreneurs to take control of their businesses and futures. The success of these women is a testament to the power of inclusive digital transformation in creating economic opportunities and fostering gender equality.
