Scaling digital solutions for a just and inclusive green transition
Taking a significant step forward to advance the digital and green Twin Transition, the #SmartDevelopmentFund (#SDF), in collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP) Innovation Accelerator, is thrilled to unveil the Digital Green Innovation Acceleration Programme (DGIx). DGIx is powered by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and the European Union (EU).
This pioneering initiative aims to harness the power of digital solutions to tackle one of the world’s most pressing challenges and its negative consequences for vulnerable communities — the climate crisis.

DGIx has a clear mission: to bolster climate action in partner countries by supporting high-impact digital green ventures and solutions. It is a call to all digital innovators in Africa, to join hands in creating a greener future for our planet.
Empowering Digital Innovators
Selected Digital Innovations will embark on a transformative journey with DGIx, gaining access to a wealth of opportunities:
- Innovation Bootcamp: Starting in early December 2023, innovators will participate in a bootcamp designed to sharpen their skills and expand their horizons.
- In-Person Pitch Event: An exciting opportunity awaits in Kigali, Rwanda, where innovators will have the chance to showcase their ideas and connect with like-minded peers and influential stakeholders.
- WFP Sprint Programme: Innovators can apply for this 12-month acceleration journey, where they will receive support from the WFP Innovation Accelerator, GIZ, and relevant partners. Mentorship and access to a global network of stakeholders are integral parts of this transformative experience.
- Equity-Free Funding: DGIx offers up to US$230,000 in equity-free funding to help innovators implement their proposed growth plans and drive positive change.
