On 1st of December 2022, GIZ signed the Fairwork Pledge as the first development organisation worldwide. With this significant step, the company is committed to giving priority to fair digital labour platforms in its purchasing decisions. It sends a clear signal for good and decent work and ethical consumption of digital services.
With more than 70 million people around the world currently offering their services through digital platforms, the gig economy is a growing and attractive space, especially for young people. In order to make the present and future of platform work fair, GIZ has been funding the Fairwork project since 2018. Fairwork scores digital platform companies against five principles of fair work and advises them on better working conditions and higher standards for their workers.
