European Commission
At a glance
The European Commission (EU Commission) is a supranational body of the European Union (EU). The current agenda includes the goal of “A Europe fit for the digital age”. This aims to strengthen the active participation of a new technology generation, including in development cooperation.
In action
The EU is prioritising digitalisation in development cooperation, as the tremendous pace of global digital transformation is leading to a greater need for cooperation and joint approaches. The #Team Europe approach includes projects and initiatives such as the AU EU D4D Hub, EU AU Data Flagship as well as AEDIB and IDEA.
Promoting a #TeamEurope approach for D4D
As part of the German EU Council presidency, the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) has set digitalisation as an area of focus for the development policy agenda. The BMZ is therefore following on from the notifications of the European Commission (EU D4D strategy, Shaping Europe’s Digital Future, Towards a Comprehensive Strategy with Africa) and the German commitment as part of the EU D4D processes.
