The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a global non-profit service company for international cooperation. It operates as a private-sector company of the federal government with the development goal of improving the living conditions of people around the world and preserving the natural foundations of life.

Contact form

When using the contact form, the title, surname, first name, institution and email address are processed. The processing is carried out on the basis of consent in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR and for the purpose of processing your request. The data is not transmitted to third parties. Transmission to GIZ always takes place with an SSL-encrypted connection, which makes it much more difficult for unauthorised parties to access this information. Just like any enquiries emailed to GIZ, enquiries sent via the contact form are erased after a retention period of six months (or after the enquiry has been finalised).

Newsletter

The personal data collected as part of the newsletter mailing list are used for processing purposes. Your data is not forwarded to third parties. Your data is not processed or used for the purposes of consultation, advertising and market research. The legal basis for the processing of the data transmitted in the course of sending the newsletter is your consent in accordance with Art. 6 (1) a GDPR. If you unsubscribe from the newsletter, all personal data is erased from our database. The newsletter is created by the GIZ’s Global Programme Digital Transformation.

Use of cookies

This website uses a Borlabs Cookie, which sets a technically necessary cookie (borlabs-cookie) to store your cookie preferences. Borlabs Cookie does not collect any personal data.

The borlabs-cookie cookie stores the consent you have given when you entered the website. If you wish to revoke these consents, simply delete the cookie from your browser. If you re-enter/reload the website, you will be asked again for your cookie consent.

YouTube with enhanced privacy
This website integrates YouTube videos. The sites are operated by Google Ireland Limited (“Google”), Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. We use YouTube in enhanced privacy mode. According to YouTube, this mode means that YouTube does not store any information about the users of this website before they view the video. However, the forwarding of data to YouTube partners is not necessarily prevented by the enhanced privacy mode. YouTube therefore establishes a connection to the Google DoubleClick network irrespective of whether you view a video. A connection to YouTube’s servers is established as soon as you start a YouTube video on this website. This informs the YouTube server about which of our webpages you have visited. If you are logged in to your YouTube account, you allow YouTube to assign your search behaviour directly to your personal profile. You can prevent this by logging out of your YouTube account. In addition, YouTube can store various cookies on your terminal after starting a video. These cookies allow YouTube to obtain information about visitors to this website. This information is used to prepare video statistics, improve user-friendliness and prevent fraud attempts, among other things. The cookies are stored on your terminal until they are deleted by you. In some cases, starting a YouTube video may trigger other data processing operations over which we have no influence. YouTube is used in the interest of ensuring an appealing presentation of our online offers. This represents a legitimate interest within the meaning of Art. 6(1) lit. f GDPR. Google reCAPTCHA
We use “Google reCAPTCHA” (“reCAPTCHA”) on this website. It is provided by Google Ireland Limited (“Google”), Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. reCAPTCHA checks whether the data entered on this website (e.g. in a contact form) is entered by a person or an automated program. To do this, reCAPTCHA analyses the behaviour of the website visitor based on various attributes. This analysis starts automatically as soon as the website visitor accesses the website. reCAPTCHA evaluates various information (e.g. IP address, time spent on the website by the website visitor and mouse movements performed by the user) as part of the analysis. Data recorded during the analysis is forwarded to Google. The reCAPTCHA analyses run entirely in the background. Website visitors are not informed that this analysis is taking place. Data processing takes place based on Article 6(1) lit. f GDPR. The website operator has a legitimate interest in protecting its web offers against improper automated spying and SPAM. Matomo web analysis service

1. Scope of processing of personal data
Our website uses Matomo, an open source software for the statistical analysis of visitor access. Matomo uses cookies to enable a statistical analysis of the use of our website. Matomo cookies do not contain any information that permits identification of a user. Every time you visit a page on the GIZ website and every time you download a file, information about the activity is processed and stored in a temporary log file. Before it is stored, each data set is rendered anonymous by altering the IP address.

2. Legal basis for processing personal data
GIZ evaluates usage information for statistical purposes as part of its public relations work and for the needs-based provision of information within the scope of the tasks it performs (legal basis: Article 6 (1) e GDPR in conjunction with Article 3 BDSG)..

3. Purpose of data processing
Matomo is used for the purpose of improving the quality of our website and its contents. It tells us how the website is used so that we can constantly optimise our offer.

4. Duration of storage, right of objection and removal
The cookies used by Matomo are stored on the user’s computer, from which they are transmitted to our website. This means that you, the user, have full control over the use of cookies. Cookies that have already been stored can be erased at any time. This can also take place automatically.

You can object to the storage and analysis of this data by Matomo at any time.

Change settings

In this case, an op-out cookie is permanently stored in your browser, which prompts Matomo not to collect any data for storage or analysis. However, if you intentionally or unintentionally delete this cookie, this also withdraws the objection to the data storage and analysis, which can be renewed using the above link.

Alternatively, most modern browsers have a “Do Not Track” option, which tells websites not to track your user activities. Matomo respects this option.

Persons under 16 years of age should not transmit any personal data to us without the consent of their parents or guardians.

Note on the rights of users

Visitors to the GIZ website have the right to

  • Access to information about your data stored by us (Art. 15 GDPR),
  • Rectification of your data stored by us (Art. 16 GDPR),
  • Erasure of your data stored by us (Art. 17 GDPR),
  • Restriction of the processing of your data stored by us (Art. 18 GDPR),
  • Object to the storage of your data, provided that this data is processed based on Art. 6 Para. 1 S. 1 lit. f) and e) GDPR (Art. 21 GDPR),
  • receive the data concerning you in a commonly used and machine-readable format from the controller in order to have it transmitted to another controller if necessary (right to data portability, Art. 20 GDPR),
  • withdraw your consent, provided that the processing of the data has been carried out on the basis of consent (Art. 6 para. 1 a) GDPR). The lawfulness of the processing based on the consent given remains unaffected until the reception of the withdrawal.

Furthermore, and in accordance with Art. 77 GDPR, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent data protection supervisory authority. The competent authority is the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI).
